What is Marine Park?

Marine park is an area of the sea protected by law, they are established to protect, conserve and manage important marine ecosystems, particularly coral reefs. The waters around the Perhentian Islands were declared as Marine park under Malaysian Law in 1991. The protected waters extend 2 nautical miles from the shore.
As a protected area, certain activities are prohibited within the boundaries of the park. violation can result in heavy fines.

Permitted activities:
*scuba diving
*snorkelling
*kayaking
*underwater photography

Prohibited activities:
*water skiing, jet skiing
*stepping/touching corals/marine life
*collection of any marine resources whether alive/dead
*Fishing/ possession of fishing equipments
*Vandalisme
